Natural Lice Treatments

By Lice Clinics of America

Natural lice treatments (also called green treatments or chemical-free treatments) generally refer to a lice treatment that doesn’t use regulated pesticide-based products.

Many over-the-counter lice products and prescription-strength lice drugs have pesticides as active ingredients. For parents not wishing to put pesticides on their kids’ heads, a natural lice treatment is a good option.

Although using a lice comb would be considered natural in that it doesn’t use chemicals to treat head lice, natural lice treatments typically fall under two categories: herbal home remedies and heated-air treatments.

Herbal home remedies use essential oils such as lavender, peppermint or tea tree to kill or repel lice. These products are typically sold online. Because they usually aren’t regulated by the FDA or other international regulatory agency, they typically aren’t required to publish efficacy rates or warnings.

As for heated-air treatment, AirAllé® is an FDA-cleared medical device that kills lice and 99.2 percent of lice eggs without using any chemicals.
